Why are people buying air purifiers?
Indoor air quality is not a "new" thing. For many years, experts at the CDC, WHO, and EPA have been publishing studies on the effects of poor indoor air quality on health and well-being. Year after year, the market was mostly people with serious conditions or forward-thinking employers. But, that's not the world we live in anymore.
Take a look at the Google Search trends for the term "air purifier" over the past 4 years.
What's changed?
The COVID-19 pandemic opened the eyes to many of the possible dangers of indoor air, but airborne viruses are not the only obstacle being faced. Although COVID-19 is still a challenge for some, many people aren't noting it as the top reason for purchase.
The awareness created by the pandemic is clear based on the graph, but the reason people are buying today is personal - based on family, economic, and health factors. Some of the top reasons people are buying include creating a cleaner indoor environment, allergy relief, and better sleep.
People now ask themselves "What's in my indoor air?" on a regular basis. Depending on the location and lifestyle, there could be an endless supply of reasons to buy an air purifier. As the spring season approaches, the focus shifts to allergy relief and natural alternatives to benadryl.
In thousands of classrooms across the country, 2 Compact air purifiers are placed to reduce the spread of bacteria and viruses. Giving parents, teachers, and students the peace of mind of breathing clean air where they spend the majority of their days. Since there are many reasons to purchase an air purifier, we asked our customers to give us their feedback once they made a purchase with us.

The data recap.
This data was collected over the span of the last 4 years and shows us a recent snapshot of why people are buying Intellipure® air purifiers. The survey allowed customers to choose 1 or more options based on what they thought was the main driver(s) of their purchase.
Our takeaways - Clean really means safe.
In a world of bacteria, gasses, combustion, allergies, and viruses - doesn't the word "clean" make you feel just a little better? In 2023, many families are considering an air purifier a "must need" for their homes, and they aren't exaggerating.
It helps a lot of other people feel and breathe better, too. Air purifiers with real HEPA filtration or better help truly improve indoor air quality.
Consider portable high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) fan/filtration systems to help enhance air cleaning (especially in higher risk areas such as a nurse’s office or areas frequently inhabited by persons with higher likelihood of COVID-19 and/or increased risk of getting COVID-19).
Restaurants, hospitals, homes, schools, and so many other spaces are doing their best to keep everything clean so that people not only feel safer but physically are safer.
How to choose an air purifier.
Before purchasing an air purifier, make sure you research the following.
- What are you trying to remove from your air? Mold, viruses, wildfire smoke, etc.
- How efficient is this air purifier at removing that particle?
- Does this air purifier also have a VOC adsorption filter?
- Will this air purifier emit ozone in my home?
- Do you want a portable air purifier or a whole-home solution?
A few minutes of research can save you a headache in the future. If you're going to buy, buy the best. Intellipure® offers a variety of air purifiers, ranging from a portable Compact unit perfect for a bedroom or office to a Whole House Air Cleaner which is installed directly into the HVAC system.
Wondering how we did on the research questions above? We individually test our products to remove particles as small as 0.007 micron with 99% efficiency before shipping them to our customers. Our patented DFS technology can remove bacteria, mold, viruses, smoke, allergens, and more. When it comes to harmful gasses and odors, we rely on our 6-stage adsorption filter.
Our Ultrafine 468 air purifier has both a pre-VOC filter and a post-VOC filter to increase removal. We are proud to say that our products uphold rigorous standards such as Intertek Zero Ozone and EN 1822.
