According to The New York Times article, “Even Moderate Air Pollution May Lead to Lung Disease,” a recent study found that relatively low levels of PM2.5 can cause a significant reduction in lung function. The study found that “each increase of five micrograms per cubic meter in PM2.5 led to 52% increase in diagnoses of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, the irreversible lung disease that causes chronic obstruction to airflow.” Read the full study published in The European Respiratory Journal by clicking here.
